Well, what an introduction. It was our first preview since opening the site - we tipped five horses based on the trends over the last few years, and they came up trumps, as One for Arthur won, Cause for Causes followed up hot on his heels, and long-time leader Blaklion finished strongly enough to claim a fourth place.

But how did we do it?

Well lets start by saying that not in our wildest dreams has we hoped to do quite as well as we did, but it's also true to say we went into the race quietly confident we had bagged a good bit of value.

By studying the various trends enjoyed by previous winners and placed horses in the National, we applied a weighting to these to pull out the competitors most likely to make it round in a decent time. We factored heavily the relative form of the runners over longer distance races, and in the main warm-up races such as the Scottish and Irish Nationals.

We also looked at their Aintree form - with the special fences a key factor.

Once we'd taken in all the data, we drew up our shortlist and gave it to you. Sounds simple right? Come back next year and hopefully we'll do it again!
