Toro Rosso to shine in Monaco

Monaco as a race circuit is about as unconventional as they get in this day of supermarket car park tracks, so it should probably not surprise us when things that look out of the ordinary occur on the Monte Carlo streets. Like Lewis Hamilton struggling to hit the top 10 in practice for instance, or Toro Rosso posting 4th and 5th places in the same session.

Sebastien Vettel came alive in FP2, and we see little reason to oppose the German even at even money. Ferrari have proved they can mix it with Mercedes this season, with Vettel leading the title after two wins and three runners-up spots in five outings, and the nature of Mercedes struggles on Friday were reminiscent of their difficulties in Sochi. Vettel was almost a full 0.5 seconds faster than his closer challenger on Thursday with a 1.12.7 and it's hard to see Mercedes recovering that sort of decifit before qualifying.

Monaco is a track where the unexpected can happen, and we're happy to side with Carlos Sainz in the Toro Rosso to continue his good work from Thursday. The car looks really well balanced here and isn't suffering from being underpowered, which has made a huge difference. Sainz put himself fifth in FP2, and the Even money with Paddy Power on him finishing in the Top 6 looks fair enough, as does the 14/1 with BetStars on him finishing in an unlikely podium place. It could only take a couple of problems ahead of him to give him the opportunity and Monaco is just the track for that sort of thing to happen.
