England Women v Scotland Women

It's a big night for the English on Wednesday, as 3rd favourites for the tournament. Having seen Germany draw 0-0 with Sweden, and France struggle past Iceland 1-0, they will know a strong start to the tournament could get them into a great position to push on as the competition progresses.

Opening against Scotland gives them a great chance, and their record against sides of a similar quality is exceptional to say the least. Scotland are ranked 21st in the world, so we've looked at England's record over the past three seasons against sides ranked 11th-31th (10 places either side in the rankings). That has seen England win 15, draw 4 and lose none of their 19 matches in that sample. Scotland's record against sides ranked in the Top 10 (England are 5th) is as bad as England's record is good - they have lost their last 7, and one and drawn just one apiece from their last nine. They haven't scored a goal against a Top 10 side since 2014 either.
We have to fancy England in this then, but at odds of 2/7 you'd have to have pretty deep pockets to go piling in. There is also the obvious concern that the tournament has not produced many goals yet, and that's a concerning trend when backing favourites.
With all that in mind, we're reasonably confident England will shut the Scottish strikers out, and should get a goal somewhere along the way. They could get a couple, but a hatful looks unlikely.
2pts England to win to nil at 10/11
1pt England to win 2-0 at 6/1
