After a slow start to the competition, Germany will relish the prospect of facing Russia, who should be there for the taking without too much fuss. It probably comes at a good time for the reigning Champions to deliver a big performance to get some momentum going before the knock out phase.

Germany has a terrific record against sides outside the Top 15 - in fact, looking at sides 15th-35th (Russia are 25th) has seen them record nine straight wins, scoring 31 and conceeding just 6.

Russia on the other hand have lost their last 12 matches against sides in the Top 10, conceeding 48 goals and scoring just 4. Given Germany are right at the top of that pile, we shouldn't expect a competitive match really. The bookies agree of course, making the Germans as short as 1/14 (Paddy Power actually go 1/33!), and the handicaps offer us little, with the line pitched around the (-3) mark.

The correct scores are where we reckon a minimal bet could be worth taking. The 4-0 is on offer at 6/1, but for considerably better odds, it could be worth backing the 4-1, which is 19/1 with Paddy Power. That was the score when the pair met back in 2014, while Germany were 4-0 winners in September last year.

0.5pts Germany to win 4-1 at 19/1
