Home advantage is not insignificant in the MLS, and it's something we should always keep front of mind when betting on the games.

As an example, the Premier League last season saw 49% of matches end in a home win, and 28% in an away win. That implies, two equal teams should assume betting odds of 11/10 the home, 7/2 the away and 5/2 the away. The MLS this season (we are on the run in now) is seeing 54% of home wins, and 23% away wins. That implies odds of two level teams of 5/6, draw odds of 7/2 and the away win 10/3. In short, it's a slender, but important factor.

So with all that banked, we land at Real Salt Lake, where they remain within striking distance of a play-off spot. They need to motor at the end of the season to achieve that, but have five home games in their last eight regular season games, and crucially face a number of thier direct rivals. A win here is therefore imperative. They have a modest 4-4-4 record this season at home.

San Jose are in town, who are just four points above in the Conference. They have a real problem on the road, and have lost nine of their 13 away trips this season. Recently they suffered a 3-0 reversal at Houston, 3-0 at Seattle, 5-1 at Ney York Red Bulls and 4-2 at Atlanta.

1pt Real Salt Lake to beat San Jose at 5/6
