A second place yesterday, so while we got a good run for our money, it wasn't ultimately good enough to swell the bank. We go again on Friday.

We head for Ascot for Friday's selection, where Fire Brigade is well thought of and ticks a lot of the right boxes. A three-year-old under the guidance of Michael Bell, he has placed in both starts on Good to Soft ground - winning one of those, has won on his only start at this class, made the frame on his only appearance at this course, and has also won three of his six efforts over a mile in his career.
Against his co-racers, he looks the class of the field on what we have seen so far, and 5/2 looks a godo value investment.
It would be an incomplete synopsis were we not to mention Cape Byron however - the 13/8 favourite. A maiden winner towards the end of last season, our pick could be outclassed by a horse of whom big things are clearly expected given the entries already booked in Grade 1 races. There are still question marks to be sorted about that one though, so we'll put out unit on a horse who looks well suited to this run out.
1pt Fire Brigade to win the 3:15pm at Ascot at 5/2
