Saturday MLS Tips

We’ve got a couple of tips for Saturday night, so we’ll cut the waffle and dive straight in.

Toronto Reds are enjoying something of an historic season so far, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. They are currently on track to become only the fourth side in MLS history to average over 2pts a game during the regular season, and their recent form has seen them score three or more goals in each of their last four outings. They are also unbeaten at home all season with a 10-3-0 record, so shouldn’t exactly be quaking in their boots when San Jose fly in this weekend.
San Jose won 3-0 on the road at LA Galaxy last time out, but Galaxy look shell shocked this season and that wasn’t exactly an unlikely outcome. Prior to that they have been far less solid on the road, losing each of their previous five outings - all by two goals or more.
With everyone back from international duty, and almost a complete clean bill of health through the squad, Toronto can win this one at a canter, and the handicap looks appealing at 6/5 with Betfair Sportsbook.
Not only would it have landed in five of San Jose’s last six road trips, it would also have been a winner in six of the Reds last seven home fixtures. At odds against it looks overpriced. Home advantage in the MLS should not be overlooked.
Our second bet comes from Houston, where we fancy the Dynamos to inject a bit of feel good factor back into an area that badly needs some sort of pick up after the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey a fortnight ago. Houston are one of just three sides in the MLS to remain unbeaten at home this season, so must be well respected at home. They also come into this game with an almost fully fit squad to choose from - only Charlie Ward is on the treatment table and he hasn’t played all season anyhow.
The visitors are Colorado, themselves just one of two sides without an away win in this campaign. With just five goals on the road in 13 matches, it’s hardly surprising that things have been tough, and Kevin Doyle faces a fitness test so things don’t look likely to get any better in that regard. Losing 3-0 to LA Galaxy was also a pretty damning indictment on their current ability, and they have conceded nine goals in their last three away trips. It’s looks a home win all the way in this one, and the handicaps look the way to go again. Houston (-1) is 11/8 with Betfair Sportsbook, while the (-2) also appeals at 4/1.
2pts Toronto Reds (-1) at 6/5
2pts Houston Dynamos (-1) at 11/8
1pt Houston Dynamos (-2) at 4/1
