Justin Edinburgh lasted just five games of the season at Northampton, and the clubs lack of early season patience reflects their ambitions for the season ahead - particularly given their activity over the summer in rebuilding the squad.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been brought in, and wasted no time in getting the club back to winning ways against Doncaster - a gutsy performance by all accounts. It would be no surprise to see them get on a little run now, with plenty of players still keen to impress, continuity likely within the starting XI after that win, and a bit of momentum starting to build.

Portsmouth aren't pulling up any trees, and have won just two of their opening six matches, so this looks a winnable match for Northampton. As outsiders at home, they have to go on the shortlist, and should be backed at 11/5 with Betfair.

1pt Northampton Town to beat Portsmouth at 11/5

Another side at big odds at home are Scunthorpe, who will go off at nearly 2/1 against Blackburn. That is surely underrating a side who are yet to taste defeat in the league so far after six matches.

It shouldn't be an unexpected start of course - they finished last season in 3rd - just missing out on automatic promotion by four points - all based on their home form, where they won 14 and lost just three in the campaign.

This looks a classic case of a big "Championship" club coming down and being over-bet in a very competitive league. We've seen plenty of the big boys come down and make hard work of this level, including Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry and Sheffield United over the years. Back Scunthrope to win this one.

2pts Scunthorpe to beat Blackburn at 2/1 (Bet365)

We backed Over 2.5 Goals at Bristol Rovers v Walsall on Saturday, and we'll take the same bet when they entertain Oldham in this one. Four games at the Memorial Stadium have produced 17 goals so far this season, and six of Bristol Rovers' nine games have produced four goals or more so far this campaign. They are producing some free flowing stuff, and while they should have things mostly their own way in this one, they are suspectible to lapses of concentration which could aid the goals tally.

Oldham have just one clean sheet in eight matches, and five of those have gone "over 2.5".

1pt Over 2.5 Goals at Bristol Rovers v Oldham at 19/20 (Bet365) and 1pt Over 3.5 Goals at 12/5 (Betfred)
