We love a bit of the Checkatrade Trophy, and have written plenty on it this season, and it's returned a few nice winners along the way based on a very simple formula. We'll follow that winning recipe again ahead of Tuesday.

Starting at Oldham, we strongly fancy the Latics to beat Newcastle U21's. Oldham are currently 18th in League 1, but don't let that put you off. League One sides are 14-1-4 against U21 sides this season (a 73% win rate), and Newcastle are currently second bottom of the second of the Second Division in Premier League 2, so shouldn't pose too much trouble and lost 6-0 to Aston Villa U21 last time out!

5pts Oldham to beat Newcastle U21 at evens.

After some 'umming and ahhing' we'll also stick half a point on Stevenage to beat Brighton U21. They don't quite fit the bill of being a League One side (League Two of course), and neither could the motivation argument help us, as are basically eliminated now, but we'd have already expected a mixed team to be fielded, so perhaps that doesn't affect much.

Brighton are pretty ordinary at this level, and the way they tend to scout players into the club may not leave them with the strongest youth set-up. They've beaten Oxford on penalties after a draw, but lost to Peterbrough.

0.5pts Stevenage to beat Brighton U21 at 17/10
