We backed the draw last week when Chelsea visited Arsenal in the Premier League, and we are thinking along the same lines ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup 1st Leg at Stamford Bridge.

Arsene Wenger has made no attempts to disguise a game plan that will revolve around limiting Chelsea’s opportunities and trying to winning the game over the full 180 minutes rather than anything gung-ho in the first leg, and he’s also desperate for a good result after the shambolic performance his second string put out against Nottingham Forest. A draw would be a good result for Wenger in this one, and he’s certain to set the stall out to make things hard.

Chelsea are expected to name a strong team, with Eden Hazard likely to be involved, while Arsenal aren’t reporting many issues aside from Granit Xhaka needing a late check. We should see a responsible grown up performance from both sides therefore.

The pair have already drawn three times this season - 1-1 at Wembley in the Community Shield, and then 0-0 at Stamford Bridge and 2-2 at the Emirates - both in the Premier League. The odds look more than fair on another stalemate therefore at 16/5 with Bet365 and it looks the solid play in this one.

1pt Chelsea v Arsenal to be a draw at 16/5 (Bet365)
