Manchester United v Liverpool is always a big one, and this year is no exception as both sides bid to take another big step towards securing a top 4 finish. United are preparing for this one without the influential Paul Pogba which has to be a concern for Jose Mourinho as he lacks any real alternative when trying to defend his back line from the pacey Liverpool attack. Scott McTominay looks the most likely replacement but he’s hardly tried and tested at this sort of level yet.

Man United’s rate has dropped from 60% to 45% without Pogba this season but its worth noting he has missed matches against Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City so that statistic is perhaps overstating his importance.

Liverpool were able to rest a few against Porto in midweek, and should recall Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold in defence and Mo Salah up top. That should ensure they come here with a spring in their step, but it’s likely Mourinho will try to close the game down, slow everything down and present a reasonably dour affair to the fans to ensure they capture something from the game.

Since being at the helm, Mourinho has presided over three draws from three matches between these sides, and it would take a brave man to bet against another repeat of that outcome in our eyes.
