It's been a long year for Bethanie Mattek-Sands. Injured in horrible scenes back at Wimbledon in July, the American had nine months out of the game - the ruptured kneecap needing a significant recovery period.

Since tentatively returning in March, she has won twice from seven outings, but only Johanna Larsson was conquered of any note, and this match could come too soon for her.
She's never been the best of servers, and could find Andrea Petkovic too hot in this one given her rustiness.
The German has enjoyed a much fuller warm-up schedule, reaching the quarter-finals in Cagnes-Sur-Mer, albeit against modest players and performed admirably in the first round.
With the bookmakers offering 8/11 on Petkovic, there is enough juice to warrant a small play.
2.2pts Petkovic to beat Mattek-Sands at 8/11
