Penalty Takers – Germany – Julian Draxler, Mexico – Andres Guardado
Sunday really hots up with this one, where Germany will be hoping to match their previous World Cup exploits. They improved on being runners-up in 2002 and 3rd placed in 2006 and 2010 by win

ning in 2014, and they have made the semi-finals in 10 of the last 13 renewals. The last four World Cups have seen them score 14, 14, 16 and 18, so given the 43 goals they scored in qualifying, we should expect fireworks again.
Recent history in the Euros has also been kind, with appearances in the semi-finals in nine of the last 12 tournaments. Imagine all that as an England fan! Chuck in that they won the Confederations Cup last year, and you have all the ingrediants for a very strong performance – especially given the emergence of Joshua Kimmich, Julian Draxler and Timo Werner to back-fill those retiring.
Mexico have qualified from their group in each of the last six World Cups, but not got past that stage in any of those. They look a fair bet to continue that trend in fact, and they don’t look to have the quality to stop Germany. With 40 goals conceded in 40 competitive matches since Brazil 2014, they are also leaky enough that Germany could run riot in this one.
Prices aren’t available yet, but we’ll be looking out for Mexico to be first team carded in this one. The Germans were supremely disciplined in qualifying, while Mexico weren’t. With Germany solid favourites, it is Mexico who might need to start throwing themselves about.
3pts Germany to score 3+ at 2/1 (General)
