League One - Best Bets

Coventry look worth leading out with this week, with the hosts beings far better than their opening season results suggest.

The Sky Blues have scored just three goals in five games, but their 71 shots on goal (20 on target) really deserved more. They've scored just once per 24 shots on goal in fact so far, so certainly haven't enjoyed their fair share of luck. They won the shot count 26-15 at Gillingham last weekend without winning the match (1-1).

This is as much about Rochdale though - who have already conceded 13 goals in just five games. It's fair to say they were unfortunate against Walsall last week, but they were well and truly thrashed by Barnsley prior to that, and we by far the weakest side in their opening match against Burton, despite claiming the points.

Having just survived last season on the final day, Rochdale look to be in for another long haul this time around and the 79/50 on offer with Marathon Bet is huge on Coventry.

We tipped up Southend as our ante-post pick in League One, and they've started the season in better nick than their results have suggested, so we aren't too worried on that one yet. They dominated both Doncaster and Bradford in their opening two home games, and should be on-song again when facing Charlton who remain in turmoil behind the scenes.

Overall Southend are 74-32 on the shot count, achieving a 70% shot ratio, and 80% in terms of the on-target count.

The Addicts have looked nothing special as yet, scoring just once in their last four outings, with the side looking a shadow of the one that Lee Bowyer seemed to end 2017/18 with. Three goals from open play from six games is the net return.

Finally, Accrington face Scunthorpe, who are already in all sorts of trouble after just five games.

Accrington won League Two at a canter last season, as John Coleman's side grabbed 93pts over the course of the season. Keeping hold of Coleman was important of course, and they have every chance of building on that effort and surviving this year. They've opened the new season well enough - collecting eight points from their opening five games and haven't looked out of their depth.

Scunthorpe enjoyed a great season last year, but have already dispensed with the services of Andy Dawson just five games in. Stuart McCall comes in after his successes at Bradford, but he's got a bit of a job on his hands and this one could come too soon.

They are decent value at 13/10 to win this one.
