EFL Trophy - Know your managers

One of the keys to betting on the lower cups (and indeed some of the bigger ones these days) is calling out which managers are most likely to shuffle their packs, and how significantly. We looked at the average number of changes made by managers of League One and League Two teams over the past two seasons for each of their cup matches. Our method here was to add the numbers of changes from the preceeding league game, and the following league game. Adding the two together gives us a number between 0 and 22.

The average changes made for FA Cup matches was 4.3, for EFL Cup matches it was 8.7, while for EFL Trophy games its a whopping 13.1.

One man who treats the Trophy with something less than his full attention is John Coleman at Accrington. He's made an average of 15.4 changes to his sides over the past two renewals, and that rises to 18.3 when looking at their group games. They take on West Brom U21's this week.

With both sides already sitting pretty on three points, a draw would surely suit both here. West Brom are on offer at 21/10 one the +0.5 Asian Handicap market, which looks worth a play from where I'm sitting. That would win with a draw or a win for the away side, and they are more than capable of getting a result against a weakened Accrington. It's also worth chancing a small bet on them winning the game at 7/1 as well.

1pt West Brom +0.5 to beat Accrington at 21/10

1pt West Brom to beat Accrington at 7/1
