BDO - Day 1 Evening

Our data isn't extensive on either Paul Hogan or Wesley Newton, so a little gut comes into this one. There probably isn't a great deal between the players on current performance, although we know what sort of level Newton can play at when he is really on top of his game. Whether those days will ever come back is hard to know.

Wes has been mixing his darts up this season, playing on th PDC Challenge Tour alongside a number of BDO events, and my gut tells me he's probably favourite in this one - at odds with the market movement which has seen money come for Hogan.

Never afraid to swim against the crowd, we'll take a small bet on Newton on this one now he is out to 7/5 with a number of layers (or 6/4 of you happen to be a SportPesa customer).

1pt Wes Newton to beat Paul Hogan at 7/5 (General)

Wesley is the theme on Saturday evening, with Wesley Harms also expected to do the business against veteran Tony 'Silverback' O Shea as well. Martin Adams suggested that this could go either way but we suspect he's being nice to his old budy, and Harms is justifiably a strong favourite in this one.

The pair haven't met for four years, but Harms is averaging almost 10 pts better per set of darts in hand in competition and that looks too big a gap to bridge for O'Shea. We'll back the Dutchman on the handicap.

In the 180's he's no super stacker though - and he will be one of the lowest 180s/leg men in the event. Its not escaped the bookies, but I do think their numbers are still too high, and it could be worth backing Under 3.5 Harms 180s with Bet365 or Betway who offer 4/6 on that outcome. We'd be closer to 4/9 and only some serious bad luck or a very long match are likely to see us lose on that one.

2pts Under 3.5 Harms 180s at 4/6 (Bet365 or Betway)

2pts Harms -1.5 Set on the Set Handicap at 11/10 (General)

In the ladies match, Sharon Prins should be too good for Roz Bulmer in our eyes. The pair have shared their two previous meetings in our database, and both have been pretty consistent in their efforts over the season - typically reaching the QF stage of a lot of tournaments but not adding too much else beyond that.

Tournament exits for Prins this season have come at the hands of mostly top players. Deta Hedman, Lisa Ashton and Aileen de Graaf have accounted for here exit in 10 of her last 20 tournaments. Bulmer has only been taken out by those three in five events this season.

Sharon shouldn't be available at 4/5 in this, and is a strong bet.

4pts Sharon Prins to beat Roz Bulmer at 4/5 (General)
