Let’s get the cards straight down on the table. I’m going to tell you why I think Wolves are a fair old bet when they meet Manchester United on Tuesday. I’ll give you all the facts, but there are a few which stand out to me when considering if Wolves can really be as long as 3/1 at home.

Team News

There isn’t too much of note either way with both managers pretty happy with their lot. Ole Gunner Solskjaer has both Anthony Martial and Victor Lindelof back in contention, which leaves him with just Mattero Darmian, Eric Bailly, Antonio Valencia and Alexis Sanchez out. Nothing too concerning.

As for Wolves, Nuno Espirito Santo has a fully fit squad reporting for duty. He’ll be a happy man, although will be demanding an improvement from Saturday’s efforts against Burnley.

Form

It’s a simple story – both sides are ticking along very nicely. Solksjaer has turned in 15 wins from 20 matches in charge, but most recently looks to have suffered from a heavy run of matches as they lost 2-0 at Arsenal and then went down 2-1 here at Molineux in the FA Cup. Wolves outplayed United in every department that day and the manager wasn’t afraid to point accusing fingers at his players afterwards. He wanted a reaction, but the truth of their 2-1 win over Waford at the weekend was that they looked tame against a side they should have beaten easily.

Wolves have been sensational themselves since December – winning 12 of their 22 outings and claiming another five draws. That run has notably included wins over Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Man Utd. Not bad at all.

Wolves Record vs the Big Boys

Nuno Espirito Santo certainly looks the real deal when it comes to his big game set up. The below table shows how the teams placed 7th-14th have got on against the Big 6 this season. It’s a stark display of just how well Wolves have performed. Column 1 shows points per game collected, with the second showing points per game won by the Big 6 opponents.

Perhaps I’ve convinced you, perhaps I haven’t. I think it’s compelling enough to persuade me that United shouldn’t be threatening to go off odds-on favourites away to a side who beat them a fortnight ago (in some style) and who have shown their ability to mix it with the top teams in the land when needed.

1pt Wolves to beat Man Utd at 3/1 (General)

1.5pts Wolves +1 Handicap at 5/6 (Bet365)
