Championship - Easter Monday

We’ve got a home comforts theme in the Championship for Easter Monday.

We’ll start at Sheffield Wednesday, who welcome Bristol City to Hillsborough. At the start of February, Wednesday were introducing Steve Bruce as the man who would lead the fight to ensure the Owls didn’t end up playing in League One in 2019/20, while down in Bristol, Lee Johnson was sitting pretty inside the play-off places.

Since then, Wednesday have collected 20 points in 12 matches, so just 13 from Bristol City, and they have closed to within seven points. Wednesday are likely to end the season just a little outside the play-offs, while the same fate may well await Bristol City.

Having put in a real workman-like performance at Norwich on Friday, Wednesday look primed to put in a strong final hurrah, and should be backed at 13/8 to land a tenth home win of the campaign.

Nottingham Forest are playing out the season now, but could still have a say in a few things, and the form Middlesbrough are in suggests the Teesider’s could still miss out of the play-offs.

Boro beat Stoke 1-0 on Friday, but played terribly, and are still without a few very key men for Monday’s trip South. Critics might point to Forest’s four successive defeats, but three of those were away from home, and they have been a very different side on their own turf – 11 of their 14 wins this season came at home for instance.

I wouldn’t especially welcome the opportunity to sit on a debating panel to argue the merits of either of these two being quite honest, but given that trouble, I can’t make Forest 23/10 in a battle of two troubled teams.
