Southampton's last two Premier League campaigns have seen them finish 16th (on 39pts) and 17th (on 36pts), and there has been relatively little activity at St Mary's, with manager Ralph Hasenhuttl adding only Che Adams and Moussa Djenepo to his roster over the summer. Danny Ings signed a permanent deal, but he was already involved in a long term load last season in any case. Adams is an exciting prospect, but he's far from the finished product at this stage.

Burnley have strengthened with the re-signing of Jay Rodriguez and fans will be excited about his return. They have added Danny Drinkwater, although he looks unlikely to go straight into the team given his lack of activity over the past year with Chelsea. Erik Pieters is another face to join the sqaud and they will definitely expect a better season after struggling to balance Europa League commitments with League performances in 2018/19.

If there is to be relatively little between these sides over the course of a season, then Burnley at 7/4 surely represents value on the opening day in this fixture. Clubs finishing between 11th and 17th last season won 47 home games, but just 35 away.

1pt Burnley to beat Southampton at 7/4
