League Two - Weekend picks

We put up Swindon successfully last weekend, and whilst nothing has changed in our appraisal of their abilities, we’re actually switching sides to oppose them this weekend. It’s all about price, and Leyton Orient look decent enough to keep the Robins honest and are over-priced at 11/5 to make the most of home advantage.

Orient have scored seven and conceded nine this season, but the ExG number generally agree they should have returned a positive goal difference based on chances created and they might very reasonably expect to have more points in the bag than they do so far. Overall they have managed a 58% shot ratio and 56% on target, which puts them up as contenders this season. They’ve managed 53 shots from inside the box compared to 54 for Swindon. It’s hard to split the pair, and Orient should be closer to 13/8 here.

Crawley Town are another who have been performing well and they should be backed to win at Macclesfield, who may still be struggling to find their feet after the departure of Sol Campbell from the helm. Crawley have a league high 60% of shots in their matches, and whilst they could do with being a little more clinical, they have created 108 scoring chances in just six matches, and being a little wasteful will be forgiven if they continue in that vein. 58% of their shots this season have come from inside the box, so it’s reasonable to expect a few more will end in the back of the net.

At 13/8 Crawley are worth a bet here, while both sides can score and conceded, so it could be worth chancing a point on Crawley/BTTS at 17/4 with Bet Victor.

Finally, Morecambe have won just once in their opening nine matches this season – something unusual for the typically fast starting Jim Bentley outfit, and we’re going to back them to start turning it around this weekend against Salford.

Things haven’t been a whole lot better for Graeme Alexander’s Salford – who have won just twice themselves so far, who have probably been lucky to only concede eight goals in their opening six matches. They have allowed 106 shots against already this season, and had to block or save 56. Morecambe by comparison have blocked/saved just 36. Salford are surely favourites here based on the hype that often follows the club, and they are well worth opposing.
