Linz v Rosenborg

Red Bull Salzburg put Austria firmly on the European map on Tuesday night with a special 6-2 win over Genk – and continuing a phenomenal run which has seen them win eight successive matches, and score 5+ goals for a sixth successive match! It’s now the turn of their compatriots ASK Linz to follow their example in European action, and we reckon they are value to do so when they face Rosenborg on Thursday.

Only Salzburg have collected more points in the Austrian Bundesliga this season, with Linz opening with a 5-1-1 record domestically. They have lost three matches this season, but two of those came against Club Brugge who are a step up in class compared to this week’s opponents.
Linz have held a European Elo score of between 1500 and 1600 for the past 12 months, with the whole division feeling a little bit of an uplift from the RB Salzburg factor which seems to have raised the game a little in Austria.
Compared to Rosenborg the defence is stark. Whilst Norwegian sides were well rated in the late 90s and early 2000s, the quality in the division is definitely on the slide as some of the better players are picked up sooner by other European league sides looking for a bargain. In fact, just six of the most recent Norwegian squad were playing domestically. Good Norwegian sides now tend to rate about 1400-1500 these days. Rosenborg are not dominating at home this season – just fourth in the Tippeligaen and with just two away wins all season (2-4-4)
