Having stared long and hard at the 9/4 on offer for Jim Bentley’s Morecambe as a possible tip, I’ve finally decided to pass over it. Could he demand a reaction after the disappointing loss to Oldham last week? It’s entirely possible, and the 9/4 against a fairly ordinary looking Northampton certainly appeals, but in the end, their woeful form is just too much of a barrier for me.

So instead, we’ll head to Mansfield in search of goals, with the data supporting an entertaining match at Field Mill when Plymouth visit.
Let’s start with Plymouth. After 10 games they appear highly in a number of shot-based rankings in the division.
6th for Most Goals Scored
10th for Most Goals Conceded
2nd for Most Shots Taken
8th for Most Shots Faced
2nd for Most Shots on Target
4th for Most Shots on Target Faced.
Their games are rarely boring, and while only 54% of their matches have gone Over 2.5, of the seven which have, five had 4+ goals.
Mansfield look a perfect partner in a game of “we’ll score more than you” – the Stags have already drawn 2-2 four times this season, were beaten 4-0 at Cambridge recently, and were also involved in a five goal thriller against Leyton Orient.
All told, Mansfield have seen 33 goals in 12 games, while Plymouth fans have seen 37 in 13 games – an overall combined average of 2.8 goals per game.
